Bus Driver / Substitute Bus Driver

  • Certified or will train
  • Minimum route 5.2 hours
  • Wage: $15.62 per hour with excellent Benefits
  • Length of Employment: 10 months and will have Flexible Schedules
  • Type I and Special Needs Type II routes available. Open until filled.



Are you new to driving a School Bus and want to learn how? AVSTA holds classes several times a year to teach you all you need to know about driving a School Bus and how to secure a job with us, transporting the most important people in the world, our children. AVSTA offers paid School Bus driver training.

Qualification for training and employment include:

  • You must be 18 years of age.
  • Have not been convicted of a felony.
  • Have a good driving record.

What to expect:

  • Please go to the Department of Motor Vehicles and obtain a copy of the California Class C Handbook. It is very important that you study the Handbook before coming to Orientation.
  • Bring Paper and Pencil.
  • Bring your Drivers License.

Successful applicants will begin a 2 (two) week classroom training at no cost. This course is designed to provide the applicant with a commercial Drivers License Class B with Passenger and School Bus Endorsement, a Special Certificate (DL-45 Certificate, which allows one to drive a School Bus), a DL-51 Medical Card and First Aid Card. The Commercial Handbook is used in this class. Behind the wheel classes will be scheduled on an individual basis. We train on Type I and Type II Buses. Upon Completion you will have the skills and have met the requirements for School Bus Driving. A New class will be announced soon, turn in your application as soon as possible so that we can add you to our waitlist.
